dog rescue non-profit models of compassion charity humanitarian The Bali Animal Welfare Association (BAWA) is a non-profit organisation based here in Bali, Indonesia. BAWA works to protect, save and improve the lives of the animals of Bali relieving suffering by providing emergency response and rescue, providing food and medicine, and working to rehabilitate and find adoption for the animals of Bali. The Bali Animal Welfare Association also runs intensive education and advocacy programs for sustainable improvement to animal welfare.  They respond to alerts of emergencies and animals in distress especially taking care of Bali’s heritage dog. Heritage are the street dogs of Bali which are genetically unique to Bali and are, unfortunately under threat for many reasons.  BAWA runs free sterilisation and vaccination programs for the street dogs, they provide daily street feeding for street dogs with no access to food, they run education in schools and communities to end common Myths endangering these animals.   They run foster and adoption programs and a 24/7 ambulance service. The Bali Animal Welfare Association is funded entirely by donations and relies heavily on a staff of dedicated volunteers.  I spent the day with BAWA in Bali and helped to feed the street dogs and socialise the dogs ready for adoptions.  Later that week, together with Models of Compassion I organised a fundraising event we entitled ‘downward dog’ where we ran a yoga class, with the class donation going to BAWA who brought puppies and dogs who were ready for adoption along to the event! If you want to go know more about BAWA and their work here in Bali check out their website here, if you want to get involved as a volunteer click here for more information.  If you would like to help run a fundraiser email  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
